Powered Air
Purifying Respirator

Powered Air Purifying Respirators or PAPRs are designed to filter dust, fumes, mists, and/or certain gases and vapors from the air, depending on the cartridges selected. PAPRs provide enhanced comfort under working conditions because of the constant flow of air over the workers' face provides a cooling effect. Battery operated blowers pull outside air through cartridges and filters into a hood, helmet or loose or tight fitting facepiece. PAPRs provide a higher level of protection than disposable respirators. Health care facilities in some SARS-affected areas have used higher levels of respiratory protection, including PAPRs.

When PAPRs are used, their reusable elements should be cleaned and disinfected after use and the filters replaced in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. All used filters should be considered potentially contaminated with infectious material and must be safely discarded.

PAPRs, as with all respirators, provide a variety of systems for protection, performance, versatility and mobility. Allowing the ability to work within a variety of environments.
